Henry Lee Lucas was born on August 23, 1936, in Blacksburg, Virginia. His mother, Viola Lucas, was a prostitute who married his father, Anderson Lucas, after getting pregnant with him. His father was an abusive alcoholic who would often beat him and his mother. When he was 10 years old, his father died of cancer, and his mother soon began prostituting him to her clients. He ran away from home at the age of 15 and began hitchhiking around the country. He soon began committing murders and robberies across the country. In 1960, he was arrested for the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Michigan. He served 10 years in prison before being released on parole in 1970. He then moved to Texas, where he committed several more murders. In 1983, he was finally arrested for the murder of Debra Johnson in Texas. He confessed to killing over 600 people and was sentenced to death in 1984. However, his death sentence was later commuted to life in prison after it was revealed that many of his confessions were fabricated. He died of natural causes in 2001 while serving a life sentence in prison.

His father was sent to prison for life and Lucas went to live with his aunt and uncle.
Lucas began committing crimes at a young age. He was first arrested at the age of 12 for burglary and spent time in reform school. He later ran away from home and began hitchhiking around the country. During this time, he committed various crimes including burglary, rape, and murder. In 1960, he was arrested in Los Angeles for the rape and murder of a teenage girl. He was sentenced to death but the sentence was later commuted to life in prison.
In 1974, Lucas escaped from prison and began a killing spree that lasted until he was recaptured in 1983. During this time, he killed as many as 200 people. In 1998, Lucas was sentenced to death for the murders of 11 women in Texas. He died by lethal injection on March 13, 2001.
