About Carl Gustav Jung - the cornerstones of psychological types
Carl Gustav Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology. His work has been influential in the fields of psychiatry, anthropology, archaeology, literature, philosophy, and religious studies. Jung emphasized understanding the psyche through exploring the world of dreams, art, mythology, world religion and philosophy.
Jung was born in Kesswil, in the Swiss canton of Thurgau, on 26 July 1875 as the second and last child of Paul Achilles Jung (1842โ1896) and Emilie Preiswerk (1848โ1923). His father was a pastor in the Swiss Reformed Church. Jung's mother emigrated from Perchtoldsdorf, Austria to Switzerland after marrying Paul Jung in 1874. Carl Gustav had an older sister, Johanna Gertrud (called "Trudi", 1873โ1961), who was nine years his senior.
Jung was a introverted child. From childhood he showed an interest in reading; especially he loved reading about ancient cultures such as Egypt, Greece, Rome and Scandinavia. When he was seven years old Greek and Latin were added to his lessons. He also began to show an interest in natural science, which his father encouraged.
The Myers-Briggs Personality Test
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality test that was developed by Isabel Myers and her mother, Katharine Briggs, in the 1940s. The test is based on Carl Jung's theory of psychological type, which posits that there are four major personality types: introverted or extraverted, sensing or intuitive, thinking or feeling, and judging or perceiving.
The MBTI consists of 93 forced-choice questions that ask the test taker to choose between two different statements. For example, one question might ask whether you prefer to live in a rural area or an urban area.
