Colin Firth - family and life
Colin Firth was born on September 10, 1960, in Grayshott, Hampshire, to parents who were both university academics. His mother, Shirley Jean (née Rolles), was a comparative religion lecturer at the Open University, and his father, David Norman Lewis Firth, was a history lecturer at Winchester College in Winchester, England. His parents divorced when he was four years old. He has a sister named Kate.
Firth's first language is English, but he also speaks French fluently. He spent part of his childhood living in Nigeria, where his father was teaching at the time. He was educated at Bradfield College in Berkshire, England; and at the prestigious independent school Eton College in Eton, Berkshire. He then went on to study English literature at Magdalen College at the University of Oxford in Oxford, England.
After graduation from university, Firth worked as an assistant director on several films before landing his first acting role in the 1984 film Another Country. Since then, he has appeared in numerous films and television programmes. He is perhaps best known for his role as Mr. Darcy in the 1995 television adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
Firth has been married twice: first toAlexandra Parkin, with whom he has two sons; and then to Italian film producer Livia Giuggioli, with whom he has two children. He currently lives with his family in Italy and London.
